Finalmouse Centerpiece: The Future of Mechanical Keyboards?

Finalmouse, a company best known for their (overpriced) gaming mice, has started to focus on another input method - keyboards. Being the company they are, they had to make something original, and did just that. Introducing the Finalmouse Centerpiece. This first model has a full screen under the transparent keycaps and switches. With its own CPU and GPU, it is capable of making its own animated backgrounds powered by Unreal Engine 5, the same engine used to make Fortnite.

The keyboard also comes with a number of perks that are increasingly standard in fancy mechanical keyboards: an aluminium case, and “gasket mounting” for the case, which essentially functions as a suspension system for your fingers. It’s also a 65% style keyboard, which means it retains arrow keys, but has no numpad or function row (e.g. F1, F2, F3). It is, however, missing a hot swap PCB, another increasingly common feature that lets you swap out mechanical switches with no soldering required. Considering the screen, it’s not a surprise.

The keyboard was set to release in early 2023, but has now been pushed back to June 2024, and coming in at a jaw-dropping $349, this keyboard is anything but budget.
